STAMATA | ATHENS | ATTICA

Kokotos Estate

An exceptional wine destination close to Athens. A family winery in complete harmony with nature.

Our story began in the late 1970s. The Kokotos family decided to abandon city life and settle near the village of Stamata where they could live closer to nature. On the northern slopes of Mount Pendeli, where in ancient times the god of wine Dionysus was worshipped, Anne and George Kokotos created a model vineyard, planting their first vines in 1980. In the estate’s organic vineyards both international and indigenous varieties are cultivated with care. The aim is to produce fine wines in which each grape reaches the full expression of its varietal characteristics. Today, we welcome wine lovers from all over the world to taste our wines and become part of our story.

Organic vineyard at 430 metres altitude with an excellent microclimate.

The estate’s vineyards, planted on slopes at an altitude of 430m., are organically certified. The soil is limestone and slate and its composition is sandy-clay. It is of moderate fertility, but rich in trace elements which contribute to the production of aromatic, full-bodied wines with good structure and the ability to age well. The climate is Mediterranean, without excessive heat, thanks to the altitude and the cooling effect of the prevailing north and north-easterly winds. The good soil drainage, combined with abundant sunshine and a favourable microclimate, ensure early ripening and excellent maturity of quality grapes with a good balance of sugars, acids and aromatics.

Winery with panoramic views of Pendeli, Parnitha and Evia.

The winery stands at the highest point of the estate, with panoramic views over the mountains of Pendeli and Parnitha and the island of Evia. The winery is fully equipped with the latest technology to take the best elements of the grape, producing wines of exceptional quality. The estate wines mature in the cellar where our barrels are housed in perfect conditions of controlled humidity and temperature. After bottling, wines are kept in air-conditioned storerooms to ensure that they preserve their aromas until they reach the glass.

Today, we welcome wine lovers from all over the world to taste our wines and become part of our story.

Tasting our wines in their natural setting is the perfect way to discover the wines, but also to learn about wine in general.  We organize regular tastings in our tasting room which overlooks  our  vineyards and  has views of the Pendeli and Parnitha mountains. Around our monastic tables, next to the fireplace, you can meet with friends or make new ones, while tasting our wines together with carefully matched local delicacies to give you a complete wine experience.
